Transforming nutrition for our scholars, one delicious dish at a time.
At Hopkins, we believe introducing children to a variety of foods early in life will broaden their taste palettes, allowing them to develop a healthier diet. Our schools have full kitchens where our cooks can prepare meals from scratch. We partner with local farmers to bring fresh foods to our scholar's tables.
Both breakfast and lunch programs are available at all schools. Meals served in our cafeterias must meet Department of Agriculture guidelines.
A variety of services are offered under the guidance of the nutrition department. Breakfast and lunch programs, a restaurant quality menu, a la carte lines, a catering and concessions service, and student wellness/education resources represent the major services.

The goal of school food service is to provide healthy meals to all students on a daily basis. It is not the intent of school food service to deny a student a meal or embarrass a student due to cafeteria charges.
Our staff members work with students and families and offer them services such as personal phone call reminders, automated low balance phone calls, emails, and notes to help them manage their child's meal account balance. Parents can easily check lunch balances and make payments online using the Infinite Campus Parent Portal Account. Deposits made online will be credited instantly to your child's account.
Infinite Campus features:
Improved access for families to view their child(ren)'s account balances and purchases online.
Real-time, secure access for Parents/Guardians to view meal & a la carte purchase information, including current account balance.
Email and phone notices of low account balances.
How does it work?
Every student has an account where all of the money for school meals can be deposited by check or online payment. As purchases are made, money is drawn out of the account. The child will access the personal account in the lunch lines with his or her Personal Identification Number (PIN) entered into a keypad.
Procedures for notifying families of account status
Step 1: The parent/guardian will be notified when the household account is at $5.00 or less at an elementary school or $10.00 or less at a secondary school.
The method for notifying the parent/guardian of children in all grades is via Infinite Campus generated account balance letters, both personal and automated phone calls, and emails.
Cashiers will use discretion to notify students about low balances in the lunch line.
Step 2:
Grades Pre-K-Grade 9: All students in these grade levels are able to participate in the hot lunch program regardless of meal account balance. This is a courtesy extended to families and should not occur on a regular basis. Parents are responsible to pay for all meal charges.
Grades 10-12: Student accounts that are more than three (3) reimbursable meals in arrears will be offered an alternate lunch of a cheese sandwich, fruit, vegetable, and milk until the account is brought current. A student may purchase a standard, reimbursable meal with cash in hand.
No student may purchase a la carte items if the lunch account does not have adequate funds to cover the purchase.
Step 3: If an account continues to be in arrears, the school nutrition cashier will work with the Student Nutrition administrative office and the building principal or their designee to contact the household and review with them their responsibility to provide meals for their student.
Step 4: Assistance from county social services may be requested by the school social worker or School Nutrition director for possible neglect when the above is unsuccessful.
What else do I need to know?
All students will use their same PIN from kindergarten through graduation.
Online payments may be used by using your Infinite Campus Parent Portal Account.
Parents/guardians can send a check to school with their child. We ask that parents do not send cash with students.
Hopkins Public Schools offers breakfast and lunch. Nutrition & Lifestyle Services strives to produce quality meals at a reasonable cost.
Households may apply for free/reduced meals anytime during the school year. Applications are mailed to all households in the District prior to the school year and are included in enrollment packets. In addition, applications are available online or at any school office or kitchen.
Eligible Meal Benefits Applications help provide important funds and resources to our schools
Hopkins scholars receive free student meals this year, but we encourage parents and caregivers to still apply for free meal benefits — there are many benefits beyond meals. Our schools receive important funding to pay for teacher and para positions and other school resources based on the number of eligible free meal applications we receive. Many families are surprised to learn that they qualify. Please apply by Jan. 4, 2021 to help our schools and scholars!
If you are need to apply for free meals for your children, there are two ways to apply:
If you are earning at or below current Income Eligibility Guidelines, we encourage you to contact us at 952-988-4060 or your school to fill out a school meal application.
If you are receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, your child automatically qualifies for free school meals. Please contact us at 952-988-4060 to determine if you need to fill out an application.
If you have questions about your Infinite Campus Parent Portal accounts, or are having trouble logging in, please contact the Hopkins Schools Help Desk, 952-988-4111. Support is available from 7 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Click here to log in to your Parent Portal account.
Applications for meal benefits can be submitted anytime during the school year. Families may qualify for free meals if the total household income is within eligibility guidelines, or if the child receives MFIP or food stamps. Children living in foster homes and students whose families have been temporarily displaced and are living with friends or relatives may also qualify.
If you are eligible for unemployment compensation, you might also be eligible for free or reduced price school meals.
You must apply for meal benefits every school year.
The Application for Education Benefits form is also the form you need to complete to apply for District scholarships for field trips and athletics.
The form is quick and easy to complete and is available at all Hopkins Public Schools, at the District Office at 1001 Highway 7, or by download. All information is confidential. Have questions? You can contact our Student Account Manager at 952-988-5303.
Hopkins Public Schools is at the forefront of school nutrition, offering students and staff quality, healthy meals each and every day. We believe that food must fuel our brain and help build strong, healthy bodies. In order to do that, we focus on whole foods — whole foods that come from local farms via our Farm-to-School program and from our school gardens.
The kitchens at all of our schools use high-quality, fresh ingredients to ensure each meal not only tastes good but is also good for the body. Whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, never-frozen meats, and calcium-rich milk are always on the menu. Did you know that our skilled chefs make nearly every meal from scratch? At the elementary and junior high schools, over 75 percent of the meals are made from scratch ingredients, and over 90 percent at the high school. Our scratch food is easier on the digestive system and contains far less chemicals, sodium, and preservatives than processed foods.
Student Meals are free for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year.
*Students must have an approved 2020-21 Application for Education Benefits on file to receive free or reduced meal benefits. A new application must be completed each school year by October 1 for continuation of meal benefits from one year to the next.
Meal benefits are available to students whose families meet certain requirements such as: families might have either one or more children who receive MFIP, SNAP or FDPIR benefits, have a foster child or have a household income within certain guidelines.
