Social Studies

In Social Studies, sophomores focus on US History, juniors focus on World History, and seniors can choose from a wide variety of electives such as The Middle East, World Religions, AP Macroeconomics, AP Government, Philosophy, and many others.

Graduation Requirements

  • 2 credits of Civics
  • 2 credits of US History
  • 2 credits of World Studies
  • 2 credits of Social Studies Electives

Phil Abalan Scholarship

Phil Abalan was instrumental in initiating the AP U.S. History and AP European History programs at Hopkins High School.  When he died in December of 1994, his family set up a fund to honor students who had found the AP social studies program to have a positive impact on their high school career.

Brinkley is the primary textbook for AP US History. If a student is deciding whether or not to take an AP History class, they should read this sample. Students are typically responsible for 1-2 chapters per week.
