Special Meeting of the School Board

September 25, 2025

The special meeting of the Board of Education of Independent School District 270 was conducted in-person and streamed virtually, on Thursday, September 25, 2025. The meeting was called to order at 5:02 p.m.

School Board members present: Chair Shannon Andreson, Treasurer Rachel Hartland, Director Brooke Roper, and Director Zhiming Zhao.

School Board members absent: Vice Chair Jason Ross, Clerk Kaj Thompson, and Director Jen Westmoreland.

Student Board reps present: None.

Staff members present: Superintendent Rhoda Mhiripiri-Reed.

Staff members absent: None.

Approval of Agenda

Hartland moved; Roper seconded; to approve the agenda as presented. Carried.

Consent Calendar

Hartland moved; Zhao seconded; to approve the Consent Calendar as presented: A) Tax Levy Hearing Date; B) Election Judge Pay Agreement; C) Election Equipment Rental Agreement; D) AP World History & European History Spring Break 2027 Trip. Carried.

Proposed Tax Levy Certification

The proposed preliminary property tax levy PAY26 (FY27) is $68,687,198.86, a decrease of $305,750.66 or -0.44% in comparison to PAY25 (FY26). The Levy system will continuously get updated with more information to reflect the total proposed levy for the district which will be certified by the Board in December.This is the proposed preliminary property tax levy for PAY26. The Board can either certify this proposed property tax levy at a specific dollar amount or at the maximum, thus retaining flexibility if there are subsequent levy changes beyond the District’s control between now and the final levy certification. A Truth in Taxation hearing will be held on December 2, 2025 at 6 p.m. prior to the regular School Board meeting to allow for citizen comments and input. The final levy is scheduled to be approved on December 2, 2025 during the regular School Board meeting.
