The regular meeting of the Board of Education of Independent School District 270 was conducted in-person and streamed virtually, on Tuesday, March 17, 2026. The meeting was called to order at 7:15 p.m.
School Board members present: Chair Shannon Andreson, Treasurer Rachel Hartland, Director Johanna Hyman, Vice Chair Brooke Roper, Director Kaj Thompson, Clerk Sara Wilhelm Garbers, and Director Zhiming Zhao.
School Board members absent: None.
Student Board reps present: Eloise Bullen (11), Manuel Wahyu (11), and Adina Togal (9).
Staff members present: Superintendent Rhoda Mhiripiri-Reed.
Staff members absent: None.
Open Agenda — Public Comments
Hopkins Clerical Association (HCA) President Barbara G. addressed the Board regarding items that were not on the agenda.
Reports
Student Board Representatives: Bullen, Wahyu, and Togal, updated the Board on recent events at Hopkins High School.
Superintendent: Mhiripiri-Reed spoke about events and highlights from the past few weeks.
Approval of Agenda
Hartland moved; Roper seconded; to approve the agenda as presented. Carried.
Consent Calendar
Wilhelm Garbers moved; Roper seconded; to approve the Consent Calendar as presented: A) Approval of Minutes — Regular Meeting Conducted on February 24, 2026; B) Human Resources — Personnel Updates; C) Response to AIPAC Vote of Nonconcurrence.
Treasurer’s Report
Hartland moved; Roper seconded; to approve financial disbursements in the amount of $2,266,354.04 for the period of February 01, 2026 through February 15, 2026. Carried.
Unfinished Business — Policy 752 in Second Read
Roper; Wilhelm Garbers seconded; to approve Policy 752 as presented in second read. Carried.
2027-28 Calendar Draft — First Review
Hyman; Roper seconded; to approve the 2027-28 School Year Calendar as presented in first read. Carried.

Vice Chair Roper and Assistant Superintendent Lightfoot provided background on the presented policies.
Roper moved; Wilhelm Garbers seconded; that the Board approves the above policies in First Read; further, the Board directs the Administration to prepare the policies (with suggested revisions) for approval in Second Reading at the next meeting. Carried.
Resolution Calling Executive Session
The Board reviewed preliminary allegations or charges against an individual subject to the Board’s authority. The individual requested that the discussion be held in open session, and the Board conducted the discussion accordingly.

Board members reported on recent educational activities/events in which they have participated.
