Regular Meeting of the School Board

February 24, 2026

The regular meeting of the Board of Education of Independent School District 270 was conducted in-person and streamed virtually, on Tuesday, February 24, 2026. The meeting was called to order at 7:12 p.m. 

School Board members present: Chair Shannon Andreson, Treasurer Rachel Hartland, Vice Chair Brooke Roper, Director Kaj Thompson, Clerk Sara Wilhelm Garbers, and Director Zhiming Zhao. Director Johanna Hyman joined virtually.

School Board members absent: None.

Student Board reps present: Manuel Wahyu (11) and Sufyan Osman (10).

Staff members present: Superintendent Rhoda Mhiripiri-Reed. 

Staff members absent: None.

Open Agenda — Public Comments

Kim V. left a voicemail addressing the Board regarding items that were not on the agenda. Jonathan F, and Ed Z addressed the Board regarding items that were not on the agenda.

Reports

Student Board Representatives: Wahyu and Osman, updated the Board on recent events at Hopkins High School. 

Superintendent: Mhiripiri-Reed spoke about events and highlights from the past few weeks.

Approval of Agenda 

Hartland moved; Roper seconded; to approve the agenda as presented. Carried.

Consent Calendar 

Roper moved; Hartland seconded; to approve the Consent Calendar as presented: A) Approval of Minutes — Regular Meeting Conducted on February 10, 2026; B) Human Resources — Personnel Updates; C) Policies in Second Read; D) HEA Seniority List; E) 2025-2027 Director Agreement Settlement; F) Yeadon Contract for HHS Multisport Dome; G) Physical Security Electronics Discovery & Gap Analysis Consulting Contract; H) Resolution Directing the Administration to make Staffing Recommendations; I) bergenKDV FY25 & FY26 Audit Agreement; J) CFAC Bylaws . Carried.

Treasurer’s Report 

Hartland moved; Roper seconded; to approve financial disbursements in the amount of $1,273,803.51 for the period of January 16, 2026 through January 31, 2026. Carried. 

A&I Report Approval

Hartland; Wilhelm Garbers seconded; to approve the A&I Report as presented. Carried.

Resolution of Nonconcurrence 2026: American Indian Parent Advisory Committee (AIPAC)

Wilhelm Garbers; Roper seconded; to accept the Hopkins Indian Parent Advisory Committee vote of nonconcurrence. Carried.

Policies in First Read

Vice Chair Roper and Assistant Superintendent Lightfoot provided background on the presented policies. 

Wilhelm Garbers moved; Hartland seconded; that the Board approves the above policies in First Read; further, the Board directs the Administration to prepare the policies (with suggested revisions) for approval in Second Reading at the next meeting (as part of Old Business). Carried.
