Regular Meeting of the School Board
January 24, 2023

The regular meeting of the Board of Education of Independent School District 270 was conducted in person on Tuesday January 24, 2023. The meeting was called to order at 7:03 p.m.

School Board members present: Treasurer Steve Adams, Vice Chair Shannon Andreson, Director Rachel Hartland, Director Tanya Khan, Clerk Jason Ross, and Chair Jennifer Westmoreland. School Board members absent: Director Katie Pederson.

Student Board reps present: Elif Ozturk (11). Student Board reps absent: None.

Staff members present: Superintendent Rhoda Mhiripiri-Reed. Staff members absent: None.

Approval of Agenda

Ross moved, Andreson seconded, to approve the agenda as presented. Carried.

Consent Calendar

Khan moved, Hartland seconded, to approve the Consent Calendar as presented: A) Approval of Minutes — Regular Meeting Conducted on January 10, 2023; B) Human Resources — Personnel Updates; C) Updated Payment Schedule For Ubah Medical Academy; D) Tentative Agreement with Service Employees International Union Local 284 – Kids & Company Employees; E) Hopkins Public Schools - Chicago Trip Itinerary 2023 & Newsletter. Carried.

Treasurer’s Report

Treasurer Adams highlighted expenses of interest. Adams moved, Khan seconded, to approve financial disbursements in the $1,278,464.90 for the period of January 6, 2023 through January 17, 2023. Carried.

Policies in First Read

• Policy 755: Post-Issuance Debt Compliance

Lightfoot and Andreson provided details on the newly created policy and its focus on district compliance with all applicable federal regulations.

Andreson moved; Adams seconded; that the Board approves Policy 755 in First Read; further, the Board directs the Administration to prepare the policies (with suggested revisions) for approval in Second Reading at the next meeting as part of Consent. Carried.

Board members reported on recent educational activities/events in which they have participated.

Andreson moved, Adams seconded, to adjourn the meeting at 8:02 p.m. Carried.
