Regular Meeting of the School Board
September 6, 2022
The regular meeting of the Board of Education of Independent School District 270 was conducted in-person and streamed virtually, on Tuesday, September 6, 2022. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m.
School Board members present: Treasurer Steve Adams, Vice Chair Shannon Andreson, Chair Jennifer Westmoreland (Bouchard), Director Rachel Hartland, Director Tanya Khan, Director Jason Ross, and Clerk Katie Pederson. School Board members absent: None. Student Board reps present: Oscar Wolfe (12), Isabella, Grace.
Staff members present: Superintendent Rhoda Mhiripiri-Reed. Staff members absent: None.
Open Agenda
Westmoreland (Bouchard) and Board members re-introduced themselves for community information. She went on to explain that Open Agenda is facilitated both through a designated voicemail box for recorded messages to be played at meetings as well as by comment card if attending the meeting in person. No public comments pertaining to agenda items were presented.
Reports
Scholar Board Report
McCoy, Wolf, and Riley, provided details on the beginning of the second week of school and the exciting opportunities ahead.
Superintendent Report
Mhiripiri-Reed highlighted recent site visits, focusing on the upcoming year.
Approval of Agenda
Pederson moved; Adams seconded; to approve the agenda as presented. Carried.
Consent Calendar
Andreson moved; Pederson seconded; to approve the Consent Calendar as presented: A) Approval of Minutes — Organizational and Regular Meetings Conducted on August 30, 2022; B) Insurance Renewals, 2022-23; C) Board Agenda Plan, 2022-23. Carried.
Treasurer’s Report
Treasurer Adams highlighted expenses of interest. Adams moved; Khan seconded; to approve financial disbursements of $640,816.93 for the period of August 23, 2022 through August 30, 2022. Carried.
Enrollment Update
Assistant Superintendent Lightfoot and Director of Marketing and Communications, Goldade, shared background details on the enrollment information provided and additionally asked for Board feedback on items they wish to see. Lightfoot went on to provide further details on the numbers for kindergarten, elementary and the fluctuation of enrollment during these first primary months. No action was taken on this update.

Vice Chair Andreson and Assistant Superintendent Lightfoot provided background on the annual policies presented, noting minor changes to policies, 204, 210. Adams and Hartland discussed clarity on the changes to policy 210. They went on to discuss the remaining policies noting minor changes to the 410 policy. Pederson moved; and Adams seconded; that the Board approves policies [204, 210, 214, 410, 414, 456, and 524] in First Read; further, the Board directs the Administration to prepare the policies (with suggested revisions) for approval in Second Reading at the next meeting (as part of Consent). Carried.
Board Member Reports
Board members reported on recent educational activities/events in which they have participated.
Incidental Reports
Adams moved; Andreson seconded; to approve the incidental reports as presented. Carried.

Parents and community members; Ellie Kretz, Michael Goodman, Andy Kyle, Andrew Wold, Michelle Kuhl addressed the board.
Adams moved, Andreson seconded; to adjourn the meeting at 7:37 p.m. Carried.
