Policy reflects Minnesota statute and aligns with other District 270 policies.
Hopkins School District 270 is committed to providing a safe and properly maintained environment for all staff, students and visitors. Toward this goal, the school District shall maintain an integrated pest management program for all buildings and grounds. This program shall include implementation of prevention and control strategies aimed at all pests identified by staff. This program shall also include notice regarding pesticide and herbicide use in compliance with state law.
The District Environmental, Health and Risk coordinator shall manage the integrated pest management program. Strategies for managing pests shall include considerations regarding species, location, infestation impact and the full range of control measures. Control measures considered shall always begin with the least intensive ones possible, including prevention and physical control measures. Application of chemical pesticides and herbicides shall occur only when physical control measures are not feasible or prove ineffective.
The District shall provide notice regarding the scheduled application of pesticides and herbicides via its web site. The Environmental, Health and Risk coordinator shall ensure the information posted remains current and applicable. Once each school year, the Environmental, Health and Risk coordinator shall print and file a copy of the notice provided.
