Literacy Instruction in Hopkins: Beyond the READ Act Part 1

Thursday, Jan. 16, 5:30-7:00 ESC Board Room (rescheduled from 11/21)

Our district is committed to fostering strong literacy skills for all students by ensuring that teachers are equipped with the knowledge and tools to be literacy experts. This session will provide an opportunity to learn about what the district is doing to increase literacy outcomes and meet the criteria of the READ Act through a multi-pronged approach:

  1. Focusing on strong tier 1

  2. Utilizing high-quality, evidence-based instructional materials

  3. Teacher and district leader development

  4. Ensuring a balanced assessment system

Session #1, on January 16, will focus on our Hopkins Literacy Plan and the complexities scholars face when learning to read and write - as well as things you can do to support learners - whether it be your own children, children in the community, or through advocacy and awareness. This will be an interactive session so come ready to experience what goes on in students’ brains while learning to read.

Then, join us for session #2 on February 20 to experience an actual foundational skills lesson and learn more about our next steps in ensuring literacy for all.

Then, join us on March 20 and April 17 to learn more about the amazing things happening in the world of math.
