Hopkins Public Schools 2025 State Legislative Platform approved by school board

The Hopkins Public Schools 2025 State Legislative Platform was unanimously approved by the School Board at the December 10, 2025, meeting.

Our Minnesota Legislature operates on a 2-year biennium cycle. Year one is intended to be used for “major financial planning of the State,” and year two is dedicated to budget review and policy recommendations. The 2025 session will be a financial planning year.

During the last biennium, the Legislature and Governor invested significant funds in Pre-K – 12 education. We are appreciative of these investments, yet the funding is still short, and school districts statewide are facing budget cuts. The increasing need for special services, English language learner support, as well as inflationary costs for essentials like utilities, transportation, and aging infrastructure, are pushing districts to significantly alter their staffing and student support plans.

The Hopkins Legislative Action Coalition will continue to advocate and partner with our legislators to increase funding for our most-treasured resource, Minnesota’s public school students.
