Election Day is here, and while the nation decides its future leaders, Hopkins High School students have already cast their votes. Last week, the students participated in a mock election organized by the Office of the Secretary of State, allowing them to voice their choices and engage in the democratic process.
The results have been tallied and Kamala Harris won the popular vote among Hopkins students, securing 68% of the vote. This mock election gave students a hands-on experience with voting and civic engagement, inspiring many to consider the power of their voice in shaping the future.
A total of 630 votes were cast in the high school’s mock election. A breakdown of the Hopkins High School vote is provided below:
President: Harris/Walz, 68%
Senate: Klobuchar, 68%
Representative: Morrison 70%
MN Constitutional Amendment: YES, 86%
By participating in this mock election, Hopkins students are taking meaningful steps toward becoming informed, civic-minded citizens. This experience not only gives them a firsthand look at how elections work but also encourages them to reflect on their role in society. The statewide student election was held prior to the general election to spotlight student engagement in the election process before the actual results are known. It also gives students a connection to the election process, even though they might not be old enough to vote.
