The Hopkins High School Bands, under the direction of Nora Tycast will host its 50th Anniversary Pops Concert on Tuesday, March 22 at 7 p.m. in the Hopkins High School Auditorium. This year’s concert, after a 2-year hiatus, will celebrate the traditions of the Hopkins High School band program with multiple performances by guest artists and alumni, elevating the student musician performance experience.

Featured guest artists from the McPhail School of Music, McNasty Brass Band, and Dessa have worked with students throughout the winter to develop a Pops program that highlights student musicianship through popular music.

Singer, rapper, and writer Dessa has made a career of bucking genres and defying expectations—she's appeared on the Billboard charts, recorded with the GRAMMY-winning Minnesota Orchestra, contributed to The Hamilton Mixtape and the RBG documentary soundtrack, and performed at clubs and festivals on five continents.

McNasty Brass Band is a collection of Minneapolis/Saint Paul based horn players and percussionists that fuse the Minneapolis sound with the spirit of New Orleans. The outcome of this fusion is hard-hitting dance music and high-energy live shows.

These artists, along with featured music educators and performers from McPhail School of Music have worked with HHS Bands to create a popular music showcase that involves all HHS musicians. An alumni jazz band, headed up by JT and Chris Bates, celebrates 50 years of jazz music with an all-star ensemble of alumni.
