Gatewood's greenhouse helpers nurture plants and grow skills
Special education classrooms at Gatewood Elementary are taking an active role in caring for the school’s greenhouse plants. With encouraging support from their paras and onsite naturalist Mr. Ike, students help nurture young plants and deliver them to classrooms once they’re ready to grow outside the greenhouse.
Each delivery offers valuable opportunities for students to build real-world skills. Hand-in-hand with caring adults, they help knock on classroom doors, greet teachers, and share the plants they’ve tended. The simple routine strengthens confidence, nurtures teamwork, and fosters meaningful connections throughout the school community.
