Minnesota Elementary School Principals’ Association (MESPA) named Melissa Ness, principal of Eisenhower Elementary, the 2022 MESPA Division Leadership Achievement Award in the West Suburban Division.
Ness leads Eisenhower Elementary which is made up of three incredible programs: Chinese immersion, Spanish immersion, and a community school. She recently facilitated a collective decision-making process that led Eisenhower to become an International Baccalaureate (IB) candidate school. IB provides a rigorous curriculum framework that encourages students to think critically and solve real-world problems.
“IB develops inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who help create a better and more peaceful world through education that builds intercultural understanding and respect,” Ness said.
The MESPA award honors principals whose exemplary leadership and sustained efforts have made noteworthy contributions to the operation of effective school learning programs — improving education, their communities, and their profession.
Ness was nominated by Glen Lake Elementary Principal Jeff Radel.
“Melissa leads with love, intelligence, and a calm presence that allows her to handle anything that is coming at her,” Radel said.
