Hopkins Voices at the Capitol: Advocating for Our Students

Hopkins Voices at the Capitol: Advocating for Our Students
LAC visits Capitol

On April 13, Hopkins LAC members, student representatives, and the Superintendent
joined the Association of Metropolitan School Districts’ (AMSD) annual Day at the Capitol.

Participants heard directly from House and Senate Education Committee leaders about
the latest developments in education funding and policy—insight that helps shape how we
advocate for our district.

Throughout the day, our group met with all nine Hopkins-area legislators to share the
district’s 2026 Legislative priorities:
• Safe Schools
• Stable Funding
• Flexible Tools for Teaching and Learning

These priorities reflect what our community consistently values most: safe and supportive
learning environments, reliable funding for classrooms, and the flexibility to meet the
diverse needs of every student.

Legislators expressed appreciation for the strong relationships built through the LAC and
emphasized how valuable these in-person conversations are in informing their work.
As we continue this advocacy, our focus remains clear—supporting students,
strengthening schools, and ensuring Minnesota remains a place where every child can
thrive.

Balancing budget challenges with increasing student needs is no small task, but the LAC
will continue collaborating with legislators and school districts statewide to advance
solutions that benefit all learners.
