
At a special board meeting held April 20, 2026, the Hopkins School Board unanimously voted to select Dr. Michael Thomas as the district’s next superintendent. Dr. Thomas currently serves as the Superintendent of Prior Lake-Savage Area Schools.
“On behalf of the Hopkins School Board, I am so excited to introduce Dr. Michael Thomas as our next superintendent,” said Board Chair Shannon Andreson. “This is a leader who puts kids first, full stop. Their passion for equity, their commitment to our staff, and their vision for what Hopkins can become made the choice clear. Our district is in incredible hands. Thank you to all our wonderful candidates,” she continued. “Your experience and commitment to public education and students shines through, and we know you will continue that work, and to all who helped shape this process, thank you. We could not have done this without your support and guidance. The Hopkins community is strong because of you. And our future is brilliant with our newest leader.”
Dr. Thomas echoed his excitement over joining the Hopkins Public Schools family. “I am truly honored to be selected as the next superintendent of Hopkins Public Schools,” stated Dr. Thomas. “Having long admired the district, I have great respect for its strong foundation, its commitment to ensuring every student feels a sense of belonging, and the pride this community has in its schools. I look forward to listening, learning, and partnering with the Hopkins community to build on that foundation by strengthening academic outcomes, fostering a culture where each student and staff member feels they matter, and ensuring that systems and resources are aligned to support long-term success for all learners.”
The school board will be conducting negotiations with and a contract is expected to be approved by the school board at a May 5 board meeting.
The pending start date for Dr. Thomas will be July 1, 2026.
