Hopkins High School orchestra performed a variety of kid-friendly tunes for little Royals and their families at the Young People’s Concert on Oct. 24.
Families settled into the concert with children dressed in their pajamas, and stuffed animals and blankets in tow. The high school orchestra even participated in the pajama-themed evening wearing robes, onesies and slippers.
The orchestra played several familiar tunes from movies like Beauty and the Beast, Frozen, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, The Greatest Showman and more. Toddlers were all smiles as they bopped to the beat of the music and kids danced in their seats. While the orchestra performed, there was a balloon artist making intricate balloon animals and a face painter that gave kids colorful face art.
Before the final song of the night, orchestra director Alison Swiggum handed out pencils to the young concert-goers. They each had a chance to use their pencils to direct the orchestra at the podium just like Swiggum had done all night.
Following the concert, children visited the instrument “petting zoo,” where youngsters had the chance to pluck the strings of cello and use a bow to strum a viola.
