Hopkins Public Schools is a participant in the Light the Flame program, reflecting its dedication to education through leadership, commitment to impacting achievement, technology focus and innovation, engagement in learning communities, and valuing a collaborative partnership.

Light the Flame is a Promethean education program designed to establish and support long-term mutually beneficial partnerships among Torchlight districts with the common goal of spreading best practices and significantly impacting student achievement through innovative integration of technology into the teaching and learning process.

Enhancing student achievement

"This partnership is a great launching point for extending and exploring the cutting edge of technology, and how that technology can be used effectively to enhance student achievement," said Superintendent John Schultz, Ph.D.

"Our students and teachers have found Promethean Activboards to be a great enhancement to learning and instruction," said Sid Voss, Hopkins Public Schools' director of Technology and Information Systems. The district has 142 Promethean Activboards in classrooms. It currently is training a cadre of about 120 teachers on how to use the Activboards. Last year, the district trained 50 teachers on how to use the Activboards. Grant support from the Hopkins Education Foundation helped pay for some of the Promethean Activboards.

"Our learners are more engaged in instruction," said Voss. "In active and dynamic classrooms, our teachers have been able to transform learning experiences for our students that expand academic achievement and build 21st century skills. We look forward to this opportunity to provide leadership in developing 21st century learning for all learners, and expanding usage of Promethean Activboards across our district," he said.
