Hopkins Public Schools is pleased to announce that Tariro Chapinduka will be the next director of business services. Chapinduka is a seasoned school finance leader with a track record of financial re-engineering, scaling strategic plans, and driving change. He has over a decade worth of experience in financial leadership and management in the public sector.

Since 2015, Chapinduka has served as the executive director of finance for Minneapolis Public Schools where he was responsible for the overall fiscal management of the district. Under his leadership, the district balanced its budget after many years of deficits, and won the Association of School Business Officials Meritorious Budget Award and the Minnesota Department of Education Financial Award. Prior to his tenure with Minneapolis, he served in several finance leadership roles at Omaha Public Schools from 2012 to 2015. He also worked for the Nebraska Department of Revenue as a forensic auditor from 2008 to 2012.

"We were thrilled to find a finance leader who brings tremendous fiscal expertise and is spoken of so highly by those he has served," said Dr. Rhoda Mhiripiri-Reed, Superintendent of Hopkins Public Schools. "Chief steward of our taxpayers' dollars is a critical role and we are grateful that Tariro Chapinduka comes with a skill set that will ensure that the Hopkins budget also moves from Great to World Class!"

After spending years working in large school districts, Chapinduka is looking forward to using his skills and talents at a smaller district, where his contributions to the fiscal wellness of the district will be more tangible and visible. He is excited to see how his contributions will positively impact the classroom.

"Hopkins is going through a phase of growth in demographics as well as a large strategic initiative, and I want to contribute to that growth," he said. "I also have strong trust in the leadership team, and my role will be to foster that strength both academically and fiscally."

Chapinduka has a Bachelor's of Science in accounting, a Master of Business Administration in accounting from Bellevue University in Nebraska, and a Master of Science Degree in fraud and forensic accounting from Carlow University in Pittsburgh.

Born and raised in Zimbabwe, Chapinduka now lives in Eden Prairie with his wife Andrea – a registered nurse – and their children. In his spare time, he coaches his eight-year-olds son's soccer team with the Eden Prairie Soccer Association. He also enjoys golfing and traveling the world. Chapinduka will begin his role with Hopkins August 1, 2019.
