On Tuesday, Aug. 27, we celebrated the beginning of the 2019-20 school year with our annual Royal Kickoff event! Educators and staff members were welcomed back with energetic students and exciting performances. The event marked the beginning of year two of Vision 2031, our plan to go from Great to World Class.
Staff began their day with a warm welcome from high school students who got up early on one of their last days of summer to clap and cheer for them as they entered the building for a full day of workshops. After checking in, they entered the auditorium to sound of the Lean Mean Performance Machine (LMPM), the high school pep band. The energy continued with a performance from the Royal Jump Rope Club from West Junior High School.
The kickoff event was emceed by Sara Chovan, early childhood and parent education coordinator, and Royal Reps Faith Agboola and Sophie Norman. Last year, Hopkins embraced six core values as part of Vision 2031 — vigilant equity, intentionally adventurous, humility of heart, love, optimistic innovation, and authentic inclusivity. The workshop day was geared toward building community and it revolved around one of our core values—love!
Breakout sessions followed the staff welcome. Sessions were led by Hopkins staff and the Royals Reps who shared their expertise and infinite knowledge on a variety of topics.
