Bring Your Parents to School Day a success

December 16, 2008

Approximately 300 parents participated in Hopkins North Junior High's (HNJH) first Bring Your Parents to School Day, attending their children's classes and experiencing a school day, first hand.

"Because this was our first time, we really had no idea how many parents would come to school, said Principal Pat Schmidt, Ed.D. "We were very pleased, and plan to do this again next year."

Schmidt proposed her vision for a Bring Your Parents to School Day during a summer workshop to HNJH team leaders who threw their support behind it. It was hoped that the event would provide another opportunity for staff members and parents to connect with one another—a connection long-recognized by research to be a critical determiner of a school's effectiveness.
