Alice Smith promotes student choice on zero day

The zero day activity leverages a student’s interests and passions to build on their strengths.
December 13, 2019

With their interests and passions in mind, Alice Smith Elementary students chose which enrichment class they wanted to take on Dec. 12.

The class period was part of the school’s Zero Day Enrichment Day activity. Students in grades 1-4 had the opportunity to dive into topic areas that they typically don’t get to experience during a regular school day. Classes included yoga, rock painting, song writing, cooking, STEM challenges, board games and several more. The kindergartners participated in their own classrooms with passion activities like cookie decorating and spinning dreidels.

Jody De St. Hubert, Alice Smith Elementary’s principal said that the students have many gifts and talents, but there isn’t always a space in school to celebrate those gifts and talents. The enrichment class is an opportunity to “celebrate the strengths that they have and give them an opportunity to shine in school.”
