Welcome to Freedom School
Providing scholars with a healthy, fair, safe, and a moral start in life and a successful passage to adulthood with the help of caring families and communities.
Freedom School provides a summer of research based and multi-cultural curriculum for scholars entering grades 4-9 and their families. The five essential components of the program are enrichment, parent and family involvement, civic engagement, and social action. Families who commit to participate in the CDF Freedom School summer program also commit to weekly Parent Empowerment sessions as well. These sessions allow families and Freedom School leaders to connect as a community and support each other while meeting the needs of our scholars. Also, there will be an annual Finale session at the end of the semester, so the scholars can showcase the works they learned through the program.
Program Date: Monday through Friday, June 17 - July 26, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Location: In-person, Hopkins North Middle School, 10700 Cedar Lake Rd Minnetonka, MN 55305

“CDF Freedom Schools' scholars will be encouraged to dream big, set high expectations for themselves, and determine what they can do to help make their communities, nation, and world better just as children and poor adults in Mississippi did in 1964 with courageous young Black and White leaders.”
—Marian Wright Edelam, President of the Children's Defense Fund
