Step 1: Obtain Student Pairing Code

Ask your student for a pairing code obtained in their Canvas account settings. This is a six-digit, case sensitive alpha numeric code found under Settings. This code is needed for your account creation and will give you access to your student’s classes in Canvas.

Step 2: Access Canvas Parent Account

• Web — Create your Canvas Parent account online.
• App — Download the Canvas Parent mobile app for Android (Google Play) or iOS (App Store).

Quick Tips:
View the video instructions below to create an account and pair it with your student's account. Pair yourself to more students in your household once your account is created.

Step 3: Review Student Classes

Once paired with your student(s), their classes will appear on the Canvas Dashboard. On the mobile app, view assignment descriptions, assignment status/scores, and any missing work. Sign into the web app to view student submissions and teacher feedback.

Step 4: Parent Canvas Orientation

Look for a detailed orientation of the parent/guardian/caregiver Canvas experience from both the mobile app and the web app through a video playlist. You can also communicate directly with your child's teacher in the mobile app or via the Canvas Inbox on the web app.

Quick Tips:
Sign into the Canvas web app and click on Account to customize notifications from Canvas that can be sent to your email address.

• K-9 Students — Sign into the Canvas Student App on your iPad. You can download it from Self-Service.
• EC & 10-12 Students — Sign into Classlink and select the Canvas app or sign into Canvas directly at:

Step 2: Access Student Classes

Your current classes will appear on your Canvas Dashboard. The dashboard can be customized in a variety of ways including adding color to your course cards, changing the order of your course cards, and temporarily hiding classes from the dashboard.

Step 3: Parent/Caregiver Access

Help your caregiver to connect via Canvas. They will need a pairing code that you can generate in order to create an account. You can find the six digit, case sensitive pairing code under Settings.

Quick Trip
Look for Pair with Observer to find your pairing code. It may be located in slightly different areas under Settings depending on if you access via web or the app.

Step 4: Start School

Whether you are participating in distance learning or in-person learning, many of your experiences in school will take place on Canvas. You can learn, complete assignments, customize your calendar, and communicate with your teachers all within the tool. Watch this Canvas Overview Video.

Sign into your child’s Canvas Student account. Consider installing the Canvas Student mobile app on your personal device for easy access. Download the Canvas app for Android (Google Play) or iOS (Apple App Store).

*Note: Canvas Parent accounts will not be needed for Early Childhood students.

Quick Tips

• When accessing online, click on the Student button. When downloading the app, use the Canvas Student version.
• Sign into your Canvas Student account with your child’s district username and password.
• Call 952-988-4111 if you do not know your child’s district username and/or password.

Step 2: Access Student Classes

You will see your child’s classes on your Canvas Student Dashboard once signed into their account. Learn more about the Canvas platform and explore activities and lessons for you and your child.

PASO 3: Revise las clases de los Estudiantes

Una vez emparejado con su hijo, verá que las clases aparecen en el Panel de control de Canvas (Dashboard).

En la aplicación móvil, vea las descripciones de las tareas, el estado/puntajes de las tareas y cualquier trabajo que falte. Inicie sesión en la aplicación web para ver lo que han entregado los estudiantes y los comentarios de los maestros.

PASO 4: Orientación para Parent Canvas

Busque una orientación detallada de la experiencia de Canvas para padres/tutores/encargados tanto en la aplicación móvil. También puede comunicarse directamente con el maestro de su hijo en la aplicación móvil o mediante Canvas Inbox en la aplicación web.
