About Dr. Michael Thomas

Dr. Michael Thomas has extensive experience leading large and complex school systems. He joins Hopkins after serving as the superintendent of Prior Lake-Savage Area schools.

Clarity, consistency, and engagement are pillars of Thomas' leadership style. Throughout his career, he has led efforts to expand access to advanced coursework, improve student achievement, address opportunity and achievement gaps, align curriculum and assessment practices, and strengthen long-term financial stability. Thomas has focused his work on ensuring that all students have access to the opportunities, support, and resources they need to succeed.

“Having long admired the district, I have great respect for its strong foundation, its commitment to ensuring every student feels a sense of belonging, and the pride this community has in its schools,” he said. "I look forward to listening, learning, and partnering with the Hopkins community to build on that foundation by strengthening academic outcomes, fostering a culture where each student and staff member feels they matter, and ensuring that systems and resources are aligned to support long-term success for all learners.”
