Hopkins Public Schools provides transportation to the following resident students:

  • Elementary students living within the area of attendance .8 of a mile or more from the school

  • Midday kindergarten transportation for all resident kindergarten students living within the area of attendance one-half mile or more from the school. For more information, please visit the Kindergarten Transportation link below.

  • Resident secondary students living one mile or more from the school within the area of attendance

  • Resident elementary students attending XinXing Academy

Bus Stops

  • Elementary—Generally, stops will be located at the intersection closest to the center of the geographical location of students who will use the stop.

  • Midday Kindergarten—Generally, stops will be located at the student's transportation address.  The morning and/or afternoon kindergarten stop will be the same as the elementary stop.

  • Secondary—Generally, students will walk from residences on secondary roads to meet buses on primary roads.

Special Services

The school district provides transportation for special education students according to the child's Individual Education Plan.  If you have a child with special needs requiring transportation different from the regular bus services, please work with your child's special education case manager (see the below link for Special Services Staff) or call our Transportation Office at 952.988.4115.

The Choice Is Yours

Hopkins Public Schools offers transportation from Minneapolis for approved "The Choice Is Yours" students. InterDistrict Downtown School (IDDS) and Fine Arts Interdisciplinary Resource (FAIR) School

Hopkins Public Schools offers transportation to and from IDDS/FAIR.  To schedule or change your transportation service, please call the Hopkins IDDS/FAIR coordinator at 952.988.4003.

For specific information about your student's IDDS/FAIR transportation, please call the Transportation Office at 952.988.4115.

Open Enrollment & In-District Transfer

Students who live outside their home school attendance boundary may use an already existing stop that is located in their home school attendance boundary, but only on a space-available basis. 

Parents are responsible for making sure the student is transported to and from the stop safely. If overcrowding occurs, students may be removed from the bus roster.

To request use of transportation service at an existing bus stop, please complete the Open Enrollment/In-District Transfer Request form, which may be downloaded at the link below.

Bus Stop Change Request Form (117.52 KB)

Bus stop request forms must be completed and sent to our office for processing.  Bus stop change request forms will NOT be reviewed until after the third week of school.  Forms will not be processed without being fully completed.  Families will be contacted if stop changes/requests are granted by District Transportation Staff.

XinXing Academy
XinXing Academy, Hopkins Public Schools' Chinese immersion program, opened at Eisenhower Elementary School in 2007. XinXing attracts students from all parts of the Hopkins School District, as well as from other school districts in the Twin Cities area through open enrollment.
