Special Diet RequestsSpecial Diet Requests

If your child requires special diet considerations or needs lactose-free milk, please review the following information.

According to the National School Lunch Program Act, the Food & Nutrition Department is required to adhere to specific regulations to accommodate special diets for students enrolled in Hopkins Public Schools.

Generally, children with food allergies or intolerance do not have a disability as defined in law, and the school food service may, but is not required to, make food substitutions for them.  However, when food allergies result in severe, life-threatening (anaphylactic) reactions, the child’s condition would meet the definition of “disability” and the substitutions prescribed by the licensed, medical physician must be made.

Lactose Intolerance

Hopkins Public Schools will provide lactose-reduced milk for children with lactose intolerance. Parents need to request this alternative in writing.

Please complete the below form and return to your school's cafeteria.

Other Dietary Restrictions

If you wish to make any special dietary requests for your child, please download the Special Diet Medical Statement linked below and have your health care provider complete it. These forms must be updated each school year.

Once our office receives any special requests, we will contact you to set up a meeting to discuss your child’s needs.

If you have any questions, please contact Barb Mechura, , 952.988.4063.
