Special Services Strategic PlanSpecial Services Strategic Plan

The Special Services department has developed the following mission, along with a set of goals to guide our work throughout the school year:

Mission

Hopkins Special Education Department, in partnership with caring community-based supports, declares as its mission to support that each student achieves his/her unique potential by working together to create individualized, inclusive learning experiences which promote successful, lifelong community participation.

What are our goals for 2010-11?

These goals are accountable to the Minnesota Department of Education who must produce a State Performance Plan on 20 indicators of performance.

  1. Special Educators will provide students with high quality equitable reading and math curriculum, instruction, and assessment in areas identified in Individual Education Plans in order to access regular curriculum for all students.
  2. The Early Childhood Special Education Faculty will demonstrate knowledge and understanding in providing targeted, direct instruction in the pre-literacy skills identified in the research as contributing to later reading success.
  3. The Special Education Department will identify priority areas of need based on the State Performance Plan and create need infrastructures for implementation.
  4. Due Process Accountability and Compliance: The Special Services Department will successfully complete the Validation Visit during FY11 without systemic noncompliance.
