Principal Update: 3/23/12

Talent Show: The Talent Show was held on Tuesday evening, March 20 at the Hopkins Center for the Arts. The audience was treated to the creative and exciting performances of our students followed by a Grand Finale under the direction of Mr. Yasis. A BIG THANK YOU goes out to Mrs. Katia Holmes for her organization and planning of the show and to our parent volunteers who provided assistance to make this a successful talent show.

Mrs. Kastner: We are celebrating the birth of Mrs. Kastner's baby boy who surprised her and her husband by coming early. Mrs. O'Neil who job shared with Mrs. Kastner will be the full time teacher through the end of the school year.

Conferences: Our teachers are looking forward to conferencing next week with parents about their student's progress this year. Conferences will be held on Wednesday evening from 4:00-8:00, Thursday from 12:00-8:00 and Friday from 8:00-12:00. School will not be in session for students on Thursday and Friday.

Dress Code: With the arrival of spring and our weather demonstrating what spring can really be like in Minnesota this time of the year, I would like your help in reminding your children what the appropriate dress is at school. Shorts and skirts should be approximately as long as student's fingertip on his/her leg with arms hanging at his/her side. Spaghetti straps and tops that expose bare backs are not allowed in school. Please review the Parent Handbook under dress code on page 14. The handbook can be located on the Tanglen Web page.

The 4th grade classes have completed a 3-week Latin dance experience with Jae Haile Phillips. They will be performing the Merengue and Salsa at the District-wide show, "270 Dances" on Monday, March 26 at 6:30 at HHS Auditorium.

Late Start: Staff members learned about the new Language Arts State Core Standards and the grade level POWER benchmarks within the reading portions of the state standards during the late start session. This was a very informative session led by our building Literacy Coach, Mrs. Bonnie Hild.

Spring Break: Spring Break is April 2-6. We would like to wish everyone a safe and relaxing break and will look forward to seeing everyone back in school on Monday, April 9th.

Safety: Please see the electronic backpack for the 1st in a series of safety information flyers brought to you by your Hopkins District Nurses. This week's edition is about Bike Safety.

2012 Tanglen Elementary Survey: We are committed to working to make our school the best school possible. To do this, we need to gather information about our students and their school experiences. We value the opinions of our families. We hope you will take the time to read through this survey and respond to our questions. Thank you for helping us with this important work!
