West Junior High Human Rights PolicyWest Junior High Human Rights Policy

These rights apply to all persons–students and staff at West and to the entire school day including after school activities and travel to and from school.

1.  The right to develop one's own personality--(so long as it does not interfere with the rights of others) without disrespectful criticism or pressure from cliques.

2.  Freedom from physical abuse and from mental abuse such as name calling, intimidation, or harassment.

3.  Freedom from being set apart or mocked because of race, sex, religion, physical strength, size, features, friendship groups, age, culture, handicap, financial status, clothing, classroom performance, etc. . . .

4.  The right of privacy and freedom from being harassed in the classroom and hallways; the right to be treated respectfully.

5.  The right to an education; teachers should be free to teach and students should be free to learn without being interrupted by inconsiderate, unruly, or disrespectful students.

6.  The right to have personal and school property respected is a part of human rights.  Our school should be a safe place for property as well as people.

Our West Junior High Human Rights Policy was developed by students, parents, and staff to serve as a code of conduct.  Our purpose is to assure that each individual will have a safe, respectful, and positive school environment.  Violations of our code of conduct will be handled in a manner consistent with our Human Rights Policy and Minnesota statutes.
