March P.I.E Meeting ~ College Planning for Junior High Parents

Date: Tuesday, March 27th, 7:00pm

Location: WJH Media Center

Cost: Free Presented by Hopkins High School Counselors.

College may seem a long way off, but post-secondary planning should already be something you are thinking about. After all, one-third of the grades that colleges will use to make a decision on your application come from ninth grade! This session will cover the basics: timelines, what colleges are looking for in a successful applicant, and what students can do to "keep the doors open".

Why should I be involved in my child's school?

Education experts agree that parent involvement is the key to a young person's successful school experience. We realize that parent involvement takes a different form at the junior high level because of the unique developmental characteristics of the young adolescent. Your child might voice concerns about "seeing you at school." Be assured, however, that students whose parents remain involved make better transition to junior high, achieve more, and exhibit more positive behaviors.

Clearly, even though your child may not hug you in the hall, he or she will benefit from your participation in our school community.

We want to help support you in your efforts to be involved in your child's education at West Junior High. Parent involvement is much more than volunteering at school—involvement is collaboration with the staff at WJH to provide a foundation of structure, support and learning expectations for your student. We have put together some practical ideas based on "parent involvement research" that we hope will help your partnership with your school community. Please visit the link below for some tips on family involvement at West Junior High.

Thanks for staying involved!  Want to volunteer?  See the opportunities here.
