Welcome to Gatewood Elementary School!

For almost 40 years, Gatewood Elementary has served Minnetonka, Eden Prairie, and Hopkins communities. It has blended a respect for equity with an embrace of the future, academic rigor with a caring heart, and an appreciation of the individual with the warmth of a small school community.

Before you even enter our school, our Peace Garden—with winding paths through beds of flowers and trees, bird feeders and benches—greets students, staff and visitors. This Peace Garden is a popular place for students, staff, and neighbors alike.

Central to our efforts to build an intellectual community is our dedicated faculty. Intensely devoted to the success of their students, our faculty strives to provide a sound academic education in an environment that nurtures social and emotional growth.

Peacefulness and high expectations inspire and inform our daily work. There is great beauty in the small gestures of daily life at Gatewood as well: a teacher stopping a student to ask about a playmate, a teacher staying after school to provide additional help, a congratulatory hug for an obstacle overcome. In every area of school life, the faculty seeks to challenge and motivate students to reach new levels of inquiry and understanding.

Gatewood represents an almost perfect microcosm of society. We have students from diverse backgrounds. There is opportunity to learn from classmates from around the nation and globe. Their diverse backgrounds and perspectives stem from more than just geography; our student body represents a wide array of social, financial, cultural, and religious experiences as well. Our students are well prepared intellectually, emotionally, and ethically to thrive with the life-long purpose of active participation in global citizenship.

We are a school community of high expectations, academic and otherwise. At the same time, we are devoted to helping students develop intellectual, artistic, and personal interests that will allow them to reach their highest potential and a love of learning.

Our faculty and students look forward to showing you our school.

Sincerely,

Donna Montgomery
Principal
