The Gatewood Media Center is a busy place! Many students visit us daily to exchange books before school begins. Each class has a regularly scheduled media time during the week to choose new books to read for fun or for class projects. Students also meet with our licensed media specialist regularly for media and technology lessons, or to just have fun with literature. The media specialist and classroom teachers also use our computer labs and mobile laptop carts to integrate technology into all curriculum areas.

We offer an assortment of resources and opportunities to our students and staff. The Media Center houses a collection of nearly 15,000 books, magazines, and reference materials. We also offer a variety of electronic resources, including subscription databases and online reading resources, which can be accessed through Gatewood Links.

Checkout Guidelines

• Stepping Stones—checkout weekly (one book)
• Kindergarten—checkout daily (one book)
• Grade 1—checkout daily (two books)
• Grades 2–6—checkout weekly (two books)
• Older students are welcome to visit the Media Center more often, with teacher permission.
• Books are loaned out for two weeks. If you are not finished in two weeks, please renew.

• Students are encouraged to choose books they can read independently. Stepping Stones, kindergarten, and 1st grade students are encouraged to choose books from our Everybody (picture books) section, Everybody Nonfiction, or Beginning Readers and Chapter Books.
