Eat*Talk*Connect

Awareness Month November 2010

What is Eat*Talk*Connect?

Eat*Talk*Connect is a month long awareness campaign to encourage families to develop strong connections by sharing at least five meals together every week.

What are the benefits of sharing meals?

Family mealtimes are one of the best ways to build connections and transfer values to the next generation. Research shows that children who share, at least five meals every week, with their families – without the distraction of TV and other technology– benefit in the following ways:

·         They do better in school.

·         They eat more nutritionally and have fewer problems such as obesity or eating disorders.

·         They experience less stress and depression.

·         They have better social skills, character, and manners.

·         They are less likely to smoke, use drugs or alcohol, or engage in sexual activity.

·         They incorporate family values into their lives.

Today’s families struggle to balance multiple responsibilities along with a smorgasbord of rewarding activities. It is a challenge to parent wisely in an environment where other parents seem to push for bigger, better, and more. This includes: grander birthday parties; more intense academic enrichment; traveling sports teams; and more. This often results in hectic schedules, high levels of stress, financial strain, and fewer opportunities for family time. Get practical advice on how to reclaim your family time, revive family values, and keep a healthy balance.

Cost: $15 per person/ $25 per household.

Registration requested by October 28th. Call 952-988-4070.
