Kindergarten Plus

Kindergarten Plus is Hopkins Public Schools' all-day kindergarten experience. In a kindergarten classroom all day with a kindergarten-licensed teacher, Kindergarten Plus children will attend kindergarten five days a week, 6.5 hours per day.

Benefits:

Kindergarten Plus students work with a licensed kindergarten teacher for a full-day experience in all academic areas.
Curriculum is based on the Hopkins Academic and Self-Development Skill Expectations.
Curriculum areas include language arts, math, science, social studies, health, music, and physical education, as well as emphasis on each child's social/emotional growth.
An all-day program provides more time to develop, secure, and extend the knowledge and skills that are delivered in the curriculum areas.
Extended day offers children time for exploration, social skill development, more in-depth study of areas of interest, and time for the teacher to support academic, emotional, and physical development.
Learning Resource Teachers (LRTs) will work with the kindergarten teachers to support student learning for a portion of each day.

Hours:

6.5 hours per day, including lunch and recess, in the kindergarten classroom, five days per week

Cost:

$3,900 for the 2011-12 school year (scholarships are available)

To apply for a scholarship, you will need to fill out an Application for Education Benefits (free/reduced price meal application) and a Kindergarten Scholarship Meal Eligibility Release Form. These forms may be submitted along with the kindergarten application and will be sent to our School Nutrition department for review. The Kindergarten Scholarship Meal Eligibility Release Form allows the results to be provided to Kindergarten officials for scholarship eligibility determination. Before- and after-school care options:

Adding before- OR after-school care with Kids & Company: $2,125
Adding before- AND after-school care with Kids & Company: $4,250

Kids & Company rates are in addition to Kindergarten Plus program rates. Three- and four-day Kids & Company options are available. Kids & Company rates for 2012-13 are subject to change. Enrollment in Kindergarten Plus does not guarantee space in Kids & Company's before- and after-school child care. Space is limited.
