During the course of your son or daughter's high school career, he or she will be expected to demonstrate proficiency in the areas of Reading, Writing, and Mathematics. Students will be required to pass the Graduation Required Assessments for Diploma (GRAD), which are part of the Reading and Mathematics MCA exams, and the GRAD Test of Written Composition.
If a student does not satisfy the graduation requirement for an assessment during the first administration, there will be retest opportunities available.
The procedure after two unsuccessful reading GRAD retests is that the high school will arrange for a remediation opportunity for a student. A student is eligible to test again after the remediation requirement is met. A student MUST pass the reading GRAD retest to graduate from a Minnesota public high school.
The procedure after one or two unsuccessful math GRAD retests is that the high school will arrange for a remediation opportunity for a student. Please note that current legislation allows students to take the GRAD math test three times. If a student is not successful after remediation, he/she will still be granted a diploma if the student has met all other Hopkins High School graduation requirements.
