Question
What are the pluses and minuses for Hopkins regarding the decision by the Minnesota State High School League that puts the school into the Lake Conference?
Answer
On Tuesday, Aug. 25, the Minnesota State High School League approved moving Hopkins, Edina, Minnetonka, and Wayzata into the Lake Conference. These four schools, which currently are in the disbanding Classic Lake, are scheduled to become Lake Conference members in 2010-11.
The pluses are that we are now in a conference with a large number of schools that are similar in size and competitive levels. We will be able to schedule the majority of our games within this conference so we will not need to find games from Canada to Michigan, Missouri, and Nebraska.
The minuses are that there appears to be more conference conflict in the near future with the speculation that several of the existing schools in the Lake Conference will now leave to form a new conference. Hopefully, that is not the case.
