Question
How is the remodelilng of school kitchens being paid for?
Answer
The kitchens are being remodeled under the Alternative Facilities Bonding program, which allows school districts that qualify to submit a 10-year plan to the Minnesota Department of Education, receive approval, and then issue bonds to finance these type of improvements. Other examples of deferred maintenance items included in this program are roofs and HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning) systems.
Hopkins is currently in Phase II of our program, and will be looking at bonding for Phase III activities in Spring 2011.
