Philip Brown, Hopkins High School music and choral teacher was named a 2012 Choral Director of Note by the "Choral Director Magazine." He is one of 11 choral directors nationwide to receive the honor.
The 2012 Choral Directors of Note shines the spotlight on outstanding choral directors who have been nominated by fellow teachers, students, administrators, and colleagues. As a result of the award, Brown was featured in the Annual Report edition of the Choral Director Magazine.
"I try to make a difference by being a model for life skills such as hard work, discipline, and focus," said Brown. "For many music teachers, it begins with sharing our joy for music and hoping that others can find a similar joy or appreciation for music."
In the fall of 2011, Brown received the Young Choral Director Award from the ACDA (American Choral Directors Association). The award is given to music teachers with less than ten years of experience, who have established high performance and literature standards.
Brown is the choral director for Hopkins High School. He has conducted seven choral ensembles and served as the music director for the school's annual musical. He also coaches tennis. In addition to teaching at Hopkins High School, Brown directs the Angelica Cantanti, a youth singing organization comprised of nearly 200 singers in grades 2-12.
Brown will be directing the Winter Concert Choir on March 8 at Hopkins High School.
