Hopkins Public Schools is reaching out to Hmong, Latino, and Somali families and students to make sure all students have access to a college-bound track. "Yes You Can" is a District-driven, grades 7-12 initiative that helps minority families understand the college registration process, courses available, and the planning needed to prepare for a future education beyond high school.
"Yes You Can" includes parent meetings where families hear from a variety of guest presenters covering such topics as college readiness, courses to take in high school, college admission tests, financial aid applications, experiences of other minority college students, benefits of college degrees, and more.
Many of the sessions will be presented in the participants' primary language -- Hmong, Somali, or Spanish. Sessions in the series will take place at the end of February and throughout March. Free childcare is available for children in grades K-6.
