Question
Why do teachers use pop and candy as rewards and incentive? We aim to give our children healthy choices at home and for school lunch. I would be in favor of a district policy against this type of reward. It is especially gauling when it comes from the physical education teacher.
Answer
Hopkins Public Schools does have a wellness policy. The purpose of this policy is to ensure that we provide a school environment that promotes and protects students' and staff members' health, well-being, and ability to learn by supporting healthy eating and physical activity. Please let your school principal know your concerns about the use of pop and candy as rewards and incentives. Your principal can help address those concerns with teachers and ensure that our policy is being followed. You can download a copy of the policy on the link below.
