Question:

Why can't the improvements that will be funded through the proposed Capital Bond be funded the same way as the kitchen remodeling?

Answer:

The remodeling of our school kitchens is being paid for out of the Alternative Facilities Bonding and Levy Program, which may be used for deferred maintenance projects only, not safety and security issues like those to be addressed by the Capital Bond. In addition, Alternative Facilities Bonding funds cannot be used for any additions to buildings; we know already that the redesign of the school entrances at several of our schools will require the addition of new vestibule areas.
