Question
Will Eisenhower Elementary and XinXing Academy have a counselor for .3 of a full-time position?
Answer
Yes; however, this move is an increase in student service resources. We are moving dollars to provide for an assistant principal position at Eisenhower, and using the remaining dollars to provide for a counseling position. The assistant principal will serve students in a number of areas, including managing discipline, managing student 504 plans, working with students on developing academic plans, coordinating assessments, and generally assisting with other student services tasks that were previously part of the counseling work. The .3 counseling position enables us to continue developmental guidance work to those students who are most in need of these specialized services.
Ideally, we would welcome the ability to staff Eisenhower with both a full-time counselor and assistant principal position. However, at this point in time, we do not have the resources to do so. Please know that as we look in-depth at our elementary program next year, we may discover longer-term solutions to this issue.
