We offer a Mandarin Chinese immersion program—XinXing Academy—starting with kindergarten, which is housed within Eisenhower Elementary School. The program is fee-based to support the full-day kindergarten component. A grade level will be added each year through 6th grade; i.e., 1st grade was added in 2008-09. There are no fees for 1st through 6th grades.
In 2010, the Young Learner Chinese Test, an international primary-grade test of Chinese language proficiency, was given for the first time to our XinXing Academy 2nd graders. Developed and promoted by the Chinese Language Council International (HanBan) in China, it is the only legitimate test of this kind that is available for use in the United States. It is designed to measure non-native primary and secondary school students' capability in applying Chinese language in their studies, personal lives, and work.
One hundred percent of XinXing students reached the level of proficiency at their grade level in this YCT test--and many students scored at the highest level possible--indicating that the XinXing Chinese program is reaching its goals in Chinese language learning.
