Report submitted by ESAC co-chairs: Karen Kreienbrink and David Abrams:
Educational Services Advisory Committee (ESAC) meetings begin with an approval of previous meeting minutes and member reports. In an effort to provide advice, direction and support to the Hopkins School District, agenda topics for each meeting include an overview of the topic which evolves into an opportunity for large and small group question and discussion. This discussion provides advice and recommendation to subject under review. Subjects presented in 2010-2011 are listed below.
September, October, November
ESAC focused on 2009-2010 assessment through presentations summarizing results from the assessment workshop, as well as reviewing MCA/GRAD, YLCT and MAP test results. The District Equity Framework Initiative, Data Retreat and QComp Goals were explained with a summary of Staff Development/Mentorship efforts. The Committee enjoyed a "live" white board presentation revealing District Technology Integration and Standards with a 21st Century Learning emphasis. The ESAC group worked on an update to the ESAC bylaws and discussed ideas for educating the public regarding the November Referendum for the District.
December, January, February
The Committee focused on future learning through presentations related to 21st Century learning, updates to the District Strategic Plan and progress reports related to the Elementary and Secondary Studies. The Committee voted and passed the new ESAC bylaws. Results of the Minnesota Student Survey of 6th, 9th and 12th graders were reviewed. A sample of the new Junior High Course Catalog was provided. The English Language Leaner (ELL) Program provided a report regarding the implementation of recommendations that had been made for the program. The Committee also received reports from Phase IV of the Business Education Curriculum Review and EXPLORE/PLAN test results.
